Tutorial: Area Selection

Lasso Tool Selection

The Lasso Tool is useful for selecting areas that are not regular shapes, and allow you to make a free hand selection of an area.

Select the Lasso Tool from the tool box, and you will see that the cursor changes to the lasso symbol.

Decide where you want to start the selection area, and place the cursor there. Hold down the left mouse button and draw the cursor around the area that you want to select, meeting up where you started from. Once you reach the end of your selection, let go the mouse button and the edges will join up. You will see the white "marching ants" selection line outlining your selection.

How accurate your selection is depends on you, here we have just very quickly gone around the image, where as if you took your time you could fairly accurately cut out an image using this tool, or select a specific area of an image to work on.
