Tutorial: Levels

Levels are a way of adjusting the highlights, midtones and the darker shadow areas of the image, and can be used to add a bit of extra punch to your images.

 


 

 

Step One:

Open your image into Photoshop, go to "Image", then "adjustment and choose Levels, which will cause the Levels control window to open on your screen.

Ensure that "Preview" is ticked so you can see the result of any changes that you make. Under the Graphic Histogram, there are three sliders. The left most black slider controls the dark shadow areas, the middle grey one controls the highlights, and the righthand white one controls highlights.
