Tutorial: Layers 2

When you select "Layer via Copy" you will see that your selected area appears in the Layer Window as a seperate layer.

Use the eye icon to switch off the visibility of the background layer, and you will see only the layer that you have just selected. Make sure that the new layer (in this case Layer 1), is the active layer by clicking on it's name so that this layer is highlighted in blue.
